06:28 pm - Second Annual Romantic Getaway

It's time for mine and Brian's second-annual romantic summer getaway :D

This time we're planning on staying at The Briar's Resort and Spa which is in Jackson's Point, Ontario just along Lake Simcoe. Last year we stayed at the Woodlawn Inn in Cobourg and it was so beautiful. I'm really looking forward to going even if it's just for a weekend.

Brian's coming over in half-an-hour and once we get settled, we're going to book the trip. I think I'm also going to request a wedding tour because the grounds look lovely and I can really see ourselves having our small little reception there. I printed out the wedding brochure a couple days ago off the site and I was really impressed.

ETA: Oops! I nearly forgot to wish all the mothers out there a Happy Mother's Day!

01:43 pm - Getting rid of collection

Hi everyone. I hope you don't mind my posting here. I was a Duranie for twenty years, and I'm trying to get rid of my collection.

I have mostly got books and magazines left. I would prefer to send the magazines to one person rather than piece it out, but none of my friends wanted these so I'm going to have to piece this out.

Everything is in good condition. If you need references, I have dealt with many other LJers and they are happy with what they received.

I will charge $2 per magazine plus shipping. However, if you're willing to take on the entire magazine collection, then I will only charge shipping. It will probably cost between $15 and $25 to ship the entire collection of magazines, and if you take the whole lot, I will throw in extra surprise goodies for you!

Here are lists of what I have available:

magazines )

I have a lot of books for sale. I will either send you the entire collection for the cost of shipping, which would probably be around $40, or I will piece it out at $5 per book plus shipping, which would be $10 total if you want Priority shipping. The more books you want, the cheaper it will be for you because I will cut you a deal. Email me!

books )

Also, if anyone here remembers the UMF fanzine, I have all the issues and I will send them to you for cost of shipping only. (Probably around $20 or so?)

If you are interested, please email me at malakhai@livejournal.com to discuss terms. I will only accept payment by Paypal.

ETA: Everything has been claimed. Thank you for your interest.

NEW MUSIC - NEW SITE - 100 SONG PLAYER
Current mood: fermented
Category: Music

Dear Myspace Friends...

I have uploaded the player with 6 new tracks, none of which have been on the page before...

Don't get me wrong here, but I always found streaming 6 songs at a lo-quality rate, with a flawed download system, all a bit shitty. The network is great, that's how we are here, but the content presentation is limited & frustrating...

Equally, i-tunes is difficult in a number of respects, there's to many tunes, it doesn't really generate a profit for the labels, & a huge percentage of the payments don't go anywhere near the artists - 1 billion tunes & the kids still don't [& won't] pay a cent for music...

So after looking at the many digital platforms, all of which I found very bland, I decided to indulge in creating my own thing [not all on my own I may add]...

My logic was simple, if Iam gonna have digital music available commercially, it made more sense to have my own base with the ability to control what was sold & at what cost. Not having a distributor taking around 50%+ from sales revenue gives the artist a greater margin & therefore the ability to price competitively at preferred rates... But even more fundamental it gives the audience a direct link to their artists...

Then... somebody had the bright idea of offering this platform to other artists, & to expand on the idea, so we have, but on the basis that they, the artist, receive 100% of their potential income & we don't take a any.

THE 100-SONG PLAYER [yes its huge] ...

I have loaded up about 70 tracks at a very high quality bit rate to my player, the available space enables you to put up around 100 tracks into a single player, which is cool when you have years of material, some which has never seen the light of day & other which is more familiar... To hear these tracks and to check out the other 35 artists currently testing the site go to...

http://rockaffairs.com/andytaylor
& then go into songs, blog or events.

There are no fees or sign-up required, please feel free to roam & enjoy the music/info... & if you are a band or an artist then you can also join for free at

03:39 pm - "Does anybody have a TelePrompTer?" --Simon LeBon, 2 May 2008

(crossposted, with minor editing, from my own journal)

[info]britgeekgrrl, [info]gridlore and I attended Friday night's show at the Concord Pavilion (no, I'm not calling it by its current name, I'm a purist).

Set list and commentary back here )

(Speaking of text messages, who the hell sent the "Hi Kshandra and Britgeekgrrl" message to the video screens during the break? Neither of us were aware of any of our other friends going to the show.... Your timing sucked, btw; she and I were out at the merch table for an aborted attempt to get the opening act's CD - which had just been released on Tuesday - and have it signed by the band. Had Doug not stayed behind and seen it, we never would have known!)

12:10 pm - Electro-Set

Does anyone have plans on getting a VERY good quality recording of the ElectoSet, LET US KNOW!! I am SOOOO into this, and would LOVE a great copy of this (and hell I would even love MORE of good quality VIDEO)

OMG! It was so awesome last night at the Dodge Theatre. I am still on a high. Those of you planning to go to any of the remaining shows, you are in for a treat. Like the person who went to the LA show said, if you have a chance to go, do it. Phoenix people, what did you think?

12:24 pm

Happy New Moon On Monday Everyone!

08:20 am - 5/4 LA show

i really don't know where to begin, so I'll probably be rambling and non-linear. First, if you're an Andy person, you won't like some of my comments, so you might want to stop reading this now.

this is my third time seeing them in my life; first--notorious tour, second--astronaut tour, third--last night. i was 20 rows back, the closest i've ever been to them and i could see them (and there was a jumbo tron, so that helped too) very well, especially simon shake his bum and thrust his hips and grab his crotch and do his simon-spin and and and *nosebleed* overall, they were very playful, more playful than i've ever seen them, so i think being andy-less has actually *gasp* improved their live performances. i actually saw roger and nick smile a couple of times during the show. and the electronica set with the four of them at the front of the stage would've never happened with andy. the guitar player did a really good job. simon said he wanted us to dance, and they made us dance; most of us were on our feet the whole show. jt playing was so fucking awesome; the show was bass heavy so jt had lots of fun, but the poor boy can't dance; he does this bobbing thing....it's so cute. and jt talked more than i've ever heard him in a show; he said things before some of the songs and told us we were a great crowd. simon said we were "gorgeous".

as for the set list, i remember most of it, but not in order; all i know is that they started with The Valley and ended with Rio. Okay, here's what I remember: The Valley, Red Carpet Massacre, Hungry like the Wolf, Reflex, Skin Divers, Come Undone, Planet Earth, Rio, Wild Boys, Girls on Film, View to a Kill (i can't fucking believe they did this one!!), Notorious, Sunrise, Ordinary World, Save a Prayer, Falling Down; electronica: Last Chance on the Stairway, Leatherette, Skin Trade, All She Wants Is, I Don't Want Your Love.

Simon had us sing for Planet Earth, Reflex, Wild Boys, Notorious, Save a Prayer. sometimes we couldn't keep up because simon held notes longer than we could.

more evidence for JoSi love: they came out in matching black jackets with a white "D" on the right shoulder, when simon took off his jacket, so did John; they were wearing the same white shirt; after the electronica set (when all four are dressed the same), when simon took off his jacket, yep, so did JT. Simon and JT did their sing into the same mic during Planet Earth and Wild Boys, John did or said something during Wild Boys that almost made simon lose it. During Sunrise, simon sang to John. Just looked at him for a few lines and sang to him. alas, even though they were close enough to kiss, they did not....at least not on stage.

What else? JT said that AVTAK was for "all the manly men out there." I loved the two guys behind me, one wants to have Simon's babies. I danced; I shook my big ass for two hours and loved every minute of it. Of course, I'm sore today, but I dont' care. Best concert of theirs i've seen; i wish they would release a live version of this tour....how else are we to get Leatherette?

On a side note, the first two times i've seen them had awful opening acts, so i thought this act would suck, keeping with Duran tradition. However, Your Vegas, last night's act, was good. i'm still shocked.

I've heard that some DD fans don't like their new stuff; when you hear it live, the new stuff, like most of their material, is so much better live because it's all them. if you're thinking of not going to a show because of the new stuff, shame on you; have faith that they rock every song. They could've done the phone book and made it sound like the best thing ever.

Coming off the soap box. Last thing. During the band intro which was during Girls on Film, Simon lead us in a chant of "Play the fucking bass John!" as JT's intro. For his intro, simon asked us what his name was, and of course he did that 3 times. Nick was mischievous; he would have his look of "i'm nick, so i'm better than you," but then he would smile, letting us in on the joke. And Roger? Well, he's gorgeous and he beat the hell out of those drums.

If you have the chance......GO!

06:28 am - Play the fucking bass John!

The Duran Duran concert in Seattle last night was AWESOME!

The set list was:

THE VALLEY
RED CARPET MASSACRE
NITE RUNNER
HUNGRY LIKE THE WOLF
PLANET EARTH
FALLING DOWN
COME UNDONE
SKIN DIVERS
THE REFLEX
SAVE A PRAYER
A VIEW TO A KILL

ELECTROSET;
LAST CHANCE ON THE STAIRWAY/ALL SHE WANTS/LEATHERETTE
I DON’T WANT YOUR LOVE/SKIN TRADE/TEMPTED

NOTORIOUS
GIRLS ON FILM
ORDINARY WORLD
SUNRISE
WILD BOYS

RIO (encore)

The boys looked great! Simon sounded amazing! The stage and light show was awesome! John was really into it and was more vocal with trying to get the crowd going than I've seen him do in past shows. I was like, you go John! Ha Ha! They definitely did not disappoint. If I only had one thing to complain about (which I shouldn't) is that they played too many of their greatest hits. What I liked about the last tour is that I got to hear songs like, THE CHAUFFEUR and CARELESS MEMORIES. But like I said, not to complain... I guess part of being a true Duranie is appreciating some of the lesser known tracks that the public isn't familiar with. And I think I will have to resort to the fact that I will never hear them sing NEW MOON ON MONDAY live. This was my 4th time seeing them and no luck yet. ::sigh::

But that's okay, Simon is still yummy as hell!

05:35 pm - Cheesecake Factory meet up before the Duran show on May 27th...

About four of us are meeting here Columbia Mall at the Cheesecake Factory for lunch approximately at 3:00pm. Would anyone else like to meet with us before the Duran Duran show at the Merriweather Post
Pavillion
on Tuesday, May 27th? It would be nice to have a small gathering before the show and talk about our favorite thing in common; of course that would be Duran Duran. :) Just to let you know, if you weren't aware, the Columbia Mall is across the street from the pavilion. Its not particularly walking distance and you'll still need your car.

If you are interested in attending a late lunch with us, please include your email address below on the comment side. This will help me with the number of people who will possibly be attending, as I plan on making a reservation when time is closer.

Can't wait!!

09:24 am - Duranies in the LA area...

Is anyone interested in the Nokia Theatre concert coming up on the 4th? I was going to go, but I can no longer attend the concert due to a change of plans, so now I've got this ticket and nothing to do with it. Lol. The ticket was bought during the pre-sales, originally for $143. I'm selling it for $95. It's in the Orchestra section (right side), row J seat 101. If you're interested, please send me a message and let me know. :)

09:50 pm - Duran Duran reference

Just heard a Duran Duran reference in the song I was listening to...   Made me laugh.   Here it is:

I've read every word you've said,
From a poster of a cat.
Four books look across your sofa,
I thought your coffee table was more clever than that.
It gets worse once we get to her room she stops and she sings "doot do do do do do do do"
I claim "New Religion's" my song,
She doesn't get it,
It's all before she was born.
